Chairman

John joined Barrett Asset Management in 1970, when he took over from the firm’s Founder and his father, C. Redington Barrett. Today, he serves as Chairman of the Board and is a Portfolio Manager.

Before joining Barrett, John was a Vice President and Director of Clark, Dodge & Co., an investment banking firm. He was active in the investment advisory, research and sales groups at Clark, Dodge & Co., and was responsible for the management of portfolios for many of the firm’s major institutional clients, including banks, mutual funds, pension funds, foundations and insurance companies, in addition to individual clients. John is a former Director of the Morgan Stanley International Funds and of The Ashforth Company.

John holds a BA in American Studies from Yale University and an MBA, with a concentration in Finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business. He served as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Greenwich Hospital Association and of the Greenwich Country Day School, both of Greenwich, CT. Lifelong residents of Greenwich, John and his wife, Lucy, enjoy traveling and spending time with their three children and eight grandchildren.

Peter joined Barrett Asset Management in 1989. In addition to leading the firm, he is a Portfolio Manager working collaboratively with clients, overseeing their portfolios and researching new investment opportunities. Peter is also the CEO and President of one of Barrett’s two mutual funds.

Before joining Barrett, Peter was a Vice President at Henry Ansbacher, an investment banking firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions for media and communications companies. Peter began his investment career as a securities analyst at Peter B. Cannell & Company, a money management firm. Before entering the investment management industry, he was a general interest book editor at what is now a division of Random House.

Peter is currently on the Board of Directors for both the Buck Hill Falls Company in Buck Hill Falls, PA and the Governors Lane Condo Association in Princeton, NJ. He was formerly the Treasurer for the Foxhowe Association, which is an educational foundation started by Quakers in 1924, and which runs recreation programs in the community of Buck Hill Falls, PA. He was also Treasurer for the Buck Hill Conservation Foundation. The Foundation works to protect land and water resources in and around the Poconos.

Peter holds a BA in Philosophy from Drake University and an MA in Philosophy from New York University. Additionally, he holds an MBA, with a concentration in Finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts and the CFA Institute. Peter enjoys playing tennis, hiking and is currently learning the bass guitar so he can keep up with his son who plays rock guitar. When his son and daughter were younger, he coached both their Little League and Soccer teams.

Bob joined Barrett Asset Management in 2003 and draws on his decades of experience as he guides the firm, its investment research and portfolio management. He is deeply involved in security selection and portfolio construction for clients. He is a Portfolio Manager, and in addition to managing client portfolios, is the co-manager for the firm’s two mutual funds.

Before joining Barrett, Bob ran his own investment management company, specializing in long/short equity management. Prior to that, Bob was with Rockefeller & Co., where he managed individual high-net-worth, foundation and endowment accounts, and was involved in the creation and management of a fund of funds alternative investment product. Before this, Bob was with OppenheimerFunds, where he managed their largest mutual fund, which grew threefold under his tenure to more than $11 billion. Earlier in his career, Bob was a security analyst for a major New England bank and then a portfolio manager at Phoenix Securities. At Phoenix, he managed the Phoenix Total Return, an asset allocation mutual fund that was featured in “100 Best Mutual Funds You Can Buy” (by Gordon K. Williamson). The fund was also ranked by Kiplinger’s as number 1 of 4,350 funds for five years for superior risk adjusted returns with below average volatility.

Chris joined Barrett Asset Management in 1984 and during her long tenure has held positions in Client Service, Family Office Administration, Equity Research and Portfolio Management. In addition to her current role as a Portfolio Manager, Chris works closely with multi-generational family relationships and high-net-worth clients to manage a holistic wealth management approach, integrating the firm’s core investment advisory offerings with financial planning and wealth management solutions.

In addition to helping clients plan for and navigate points of transition in their lives, such as college planning, retirement income planning and divorce planning, she advises on their tax planning, trust and philanthropic needs, often serving as trustee and executrix for family trusts and estates.

Chris holds a BS in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She serves as the President of The Bronx High School of Science Alumni Foundation where she guides the evolution of the organization to ensure the highest quality educational experience for academically advanced New York City public school students. Chris and her husband divide their time between New York City and their farm in Central Pennsylvania, where they actively promote sustainable small-scale agriculture and woodlands management. Occasionally, their Houston-based daughter and son-in-law visit.

Prior to that, he was with Prudential Securities, where he assisted in the coverage of companies in the industrial and financial service sectors. Before this, he worked at HSBC Securities Services UK and was based in London, where he was involved in equity research. Wells began his investment career at Oppenheimer Capital, following Asian equities.

Wells holds a BA from Princeton University with a major in Political Economy, received his MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and is a member of the CFA Institute. He lives in Connecticut with his wife and their three children.

John joined Barrett Asset Management in 2010 and is a Portfolio Manager. His expertise includes the design and implementation of customized investment strategies that utilize equities, fixed income, options and futures. John leads the firm’s Enhanced Equity Income strategy and is Treasurer and a co-manager for one of the firm’s mutual funds.

Before joining Barrett, he was a Managing Director and CFO at Griffin Asset Management, where across a tenure spanning fifteen years he forged a reputation as a financial problem solver for clients. He began his career as a Registered Representative at Kidder, Peabody & Co., where he spent four years working with high-net-worth individuals, families and institutions to deliver investment advice.

She is a Portfolio Manager, and in addition to serving as a member of the firm’s Investment Committee and managing client portfolios, she leads many firm-wide strategic initiatives.

Before joining Barrett, Graeme was Senior Vice President and Director of Wealth Management at Inverness Counsel, where she was responsible for private client relationships, was a member of the Investment Committee and developed strategic high-net-worth client programs, such as next-generation education, philanthropic initiatives and trusts and estate planning. Additionally, she served as trustee and officer for many clients’ family trusts and foundations. Prior to Inverness, Graeme worked as a Registered Sales Associate at UBS/Paine Webber. Before that, she was an Associate at Strategic Capital Resources, where she worked closely with entrepreneurs in early-stage financing and business plan development.

Graeme is recognized by the wealth management industry for her depth of knowledge, expertise and passion, including having been selected by Private Asset Management as one of “The 50 Most Influential Women in Private Wealth.”

Graeme holds a BS in Business with a concentration in International Affairs from Skidmore College and an MBA, with a concentration in Finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) certificant, a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts and the Financial Planning Association. She serves on the board of a public charity that focuses on youth and entrepreneurship. Graeme lives on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with her husband and two young children. Owen joined Barrett Asset Management in 2016. He is an Associate Managing Director and co-manager of the firm’s Enhanced Equity Income strategy and one of the firm’s two mutual funds. He is responsible for assisting the investment team with security selection and portfolio construction.

Owen interned as an Equity Research Summer Associate in the Healthcare Group at Manning & Napier while in business school. Prior to that, he was an Investment Analyst at Boston University’s Investment Office, where he evaluated existing and potential new investment managers across all asset classes through portfolio analysis and manager meetings. He also enhanced and maintained the Investment Office’s models and analytical tools used to monitor portfolio performance, investment exposures, cash flow, and liquidity.

Madeleine joined Barrett Asset Management in 2003. With more than thirty years of experience in the investment management industry working with individual high-net-worth and institutional accounts, as well as mutual funds, she oversees the Compliance Program, functioning as an independent and objective body that reviews, evaluates and addresses the firm’s compliance needs. Madeleine is Chairperson of the Trading Committee and is Chief Compliance Officer for one of the firm’s two mutual funds.

Hutton & Co., starting as an Order Clerk and rising to Head of Operations for an Equity Management Group.

Madeleine holds a BS in Education from the State University of New York. A lifelong New Yorker, she lives on Long Island with her husband.

Ann joined Barrett Asset Management in 2018, and is responsible for all operational aspects of the business, including human resources, employee benefits, payroll, the firm’s real estate needs and its accounting. She will also be responsible for managing upcoming projects within the organization. Before joining Barrett, Ann was the Director of Human Resources and Compensation at Royce & Associates, LP. Prior to that, Ann was at JPMorgan Chase where she was a Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis in Technology Finance and Asset Management. Before this, Ann was with Service Corporation International, as a senior accountant in the finance department.

Prior to that, Maria was a Customer Service Manager for Bally’s Total Fitness. Earlier in her career, Maria was an Administrative Assistant at AFA Protective Systems, working with contracts, interacting with clients and prospects, and providing related sales, marketing and administrative support.

Connie continued these responsibilities through Hovey, Youngman Associates’ acquisition of Griffin Asset Management.

Before joining Barrett, Erin was a Client Relationship Manager with Inverness Counsel, supporting the Senior Vice President and Director of Wealth Management, as well as other senior members of the team, for more than a decade. Prior to that, Erin was with Morgan Stanley Investment Management, where she supported the Separately Managed Accounts (SMA) team consisting of Executive Directors, Regional Representatives and a Strategic Vice President. Before this, Erin was with CIBC World Market and UBS/Paine Webber.

Prior to that, Diane was instrumental in fundraising efforts for non-profit organizations, including working as a lead assistant to the Director of Fundraising at the National Jewish Center. Prior to her non-profit work, Diane worked at AT&T as a Secretary in Personnel, Marketing and Public Relations handling confidential matters and reports.
